Flights directly into London work fine for visitng the Carruthers homeland around Dumfries, Scotland.  London is about 342 miles from Dumfries.  Count on at least a 6 hour drive time.  If the airfare into London makes it worthwhile to fly there instead of Edinburgh or Glasgow, take advantage of the savings and enjoy the English countryside.
