They have walls full of information on families in the area, death and burial indices by parish, census records, place name origins, old parish maps, and much more. Additionally, they publish the Dumfries and Galloway Family History Society Newsletter multiple times per year for the Society members. These newsletters, usually running 30+ pages, are full of history of the area and information on where you can find other resources. Past publications are available for purchase, if they are still in inventory.
Subscription rates for the membership year, which runs January to December, are £11 for overseas membership, with United Kingdom rates of £12 for family membership, £9 for regular membership and £7.50 for senior citizens. While my son, Brian Carothers, and I were there, the Centre was staffed by Ian McKune and Norma Ross. They were very helpful in getting us some valuable pamphlets and additional information for our family research. Do yourself a favor and stop by to see them when you are in Dumfries.
